  • Feature   Thu, Jan 20th, 2022   Wilmot-Tavistock Gazette

Welcome to the Wilmot-Tavistock Gazette newspaper, a paper that covers local news and events of local interest, relevant to residents of New Hamburg, Tavistock, Baden, Wellesley, and throughout Wilmot Township.
You can pick up your copy for free at various locations such as Sam’s ValuMart in Tavistock; No Frills, Short Stop, MeMe’s Cafe, Sobey’s, and Office Pro in New Hamburg; Tim Hortons, Mars Variety and Baden Coffee Company in Baden; Pym’s Village Market in Wellesley; or you can subscribe for the convenience of having it delivered to your post office box each week.
The product is a combination of the Wilmot Post, which was created in October 2020, and the Tavistock Gazette, established in 1895.
The merger happened in October 2021, in response to a staffing shortage due to an unexpected medical situation. After receiving plenty of positive feedback on the new combined paper, Wilmot-Tavistock Gazette staff decided to go forward and make the change permanent.
The Wilmot-Tavistock Gazette is happy to be in the company of two other community newspapers, The St Marys Independent and The Stratford Times. All three papers are owned by Stewart Grant, who is passionate about serving the communities through both print and online newspapers.
“Documenting history has always been important to me,” said Grant. “It was my dream to someday be a newspaper owner.”
Grant spearheaded the initiative to merge the two papers, with the benefits including:
1. A thicker newspaper full of relevant and interesting local stories;
2. A free newspaper that is accessible to everyone in either print or PDF format
3. A more powerful advertising vehicle for local businesses and organizations
4. A stronger newspaper that is “the place” to find information on community events, fundraisers and feel-good stories
5. Increased awareness of what is happening in the area – we hope our newspaper makes a meaningful contribution towards improved “community building”.
Prior to entering the newspaper business in 2014, Stewart worked as a Chartered Professional Accountant in London, ON and in Bermuda before returning to his hometown of St. Marys in 2004.
In addition to many community members who contribute to the newspaper in various ways, Stewart has four full-time staff who work on the Gazette:
